The “S” class Mercedes with its life-saving balloon bags was a technological milestone initially reserved for the rich. Today things have changed. Even small cars now have several airbags, both for the head and the rest of the body. All in all, passive accident protection in cars has been improved step by step over the past two decades. But so far, even the most ingenious engineers have been unable to compensate for one notoriously unreliable link in the safety chain: the driver. The constantly increasing traffic density is not the only problem. Rash and negligent driving still causes many accidents proving a threat to the road user. In fact over-speeding and dozing off form a deadly mix. The insurance covers the financial needs of the family of the deceased but the sorrow caused by the death cannot be compensated by money.
