Iron is the most abundant metal found on earth. It is the most produced metal world- wide. The first users of iron were Indians, Sumerians and Egyptians, they used it for the tip of their spear and for making ornaments. Iron was costlier than gold. The famous Ashoka Pillar near Delhi, India built many centuries ago, of pure iron stands erect and rust free till today. Iron is known for its high strength and resistance to corrosion. It is the tenth most abundant metal found on earth. Its low cost and high strength has found it to be used for many purposes. It is used in automobiles and to make the hulls of large ships. It is the main metal used in the formation of the structure of any building. They are sturdy and malleable and can be welded into any shape. These features of the iron, has helped in the making of house-hold and garden furniture. Wrought iron furniture is very elegant and durable. They are unique and have a stylish look. Wrought iron has low carbon content and is used to make furniture, candle holders , beds, metal wall decor, wall hooks, wine racks, coat racks etc. Its resistance to corrosion and other weathering effects makes it one of the best metals to be welded and shaped into furniture.
