There have been reports that the sales have soared on Friday, after Thanksgiving. The sales have been better than last year. Analysts expect the stores to post a 2.3% sales increase for November, whereas there was a decline of 7.8% last year.
Most of the shopping for the season started on Thanksgiving, when most of the stores were open and the shopping was also done online. Electronics and online shopping were the big winners during the launch of the post Thanksgiving holiday season. The high number of shoppers has made a positive approach to the season. As it is believed that the economy has started to recover and the Dubai crisis no more a fear, this holiday season has started on a positive note.
There was an increase in the electronics sale as people bought new gadgets or replaced old ones. Jewellery sales, was more as people have started to invest in jewellery. Though the number of shoppers on Thanksgiving weekend was not clear, it is estimated that it was more than the number of shoppers last year. While the National Retail Federation estimates holiday sales will decline 1%, the International Council of Shopping Centers estimates sales will increase 1 to 2%.
