The building is thoroughly examined by the officials before giving the licence to operate the building. They check the safety norms followed in the building and the precautions to be taken in times of emergency. They check for fire exits and proper placement of fire extinguishers. Mostly co2 fire extinguisher are used in big buildings. The building should also be user friendly for the handicapped. The height of the building is also taken into consideration, very tall buildings should get the approval of the government officials. The staircases should be wide and the lifts in proper condition. Periodic checks should be made on the lifts and they should be maintained properly. Proper ventilation should be provided and there should be natural lighting. Water and sewage system are to be well maintained. Parking lot should be a part of the mall. Proper security is required for the safety of the people working or visiting the building. A green building is given preference these days.
